When Gold makes my eyes pop
Gold alone doesn’t really fascinate me but when it is set with a certain few precious stones, I am sold. And I am hoping that the husband takes cues if he is reading this :-) When it comes to outfits though, an off white and gold combination has been one of my favorites forever. And no it’s not the Malayali in me speaking. It’s one of those classic combinations which is elegant and timeless and flatters literally everyone who wears it. And if the Makeup that you choose to wear further accentuates the warmth of gold on your outfit, you have nailed it. So I chose gold shimmery eyes with a bit of smokiness and intensity at the outer corners with this off white and gold Kaftan.
Here are the steps to recreate this look. I have kept it quite simple. Do write in if you have questions.
1. As always, start with a good eye shadow primer all over the lid.
2.Apply Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick in 24Karat on to the lids stopping at the crease. You can glide on the stick directly over the lids and just soften the edges with a blending brush. 24 Karat is a shimmery champagne gold shade which I just found out is discontinued. But Sunlight Gold from the currently available shades is quite close. These cream shadow sticks are non-creasing, non-fading and lasts upto 8 hours. It sets and dries almost immediately after application, so be quick to blend.
3.Use the Cream shadow stick in Rich Caviar in the outer corners in a V-shape to build some intensity and this also helps in building a smoky effect to the look. So you can stick to just the outer quarter of the eye or bring it in a wee bit more inside depending on how you like it.
4.Layer just the center of the lid with the shade ‘Half Baked’ from Naked palette. This is to add more intensity to the gold already there. You could alternatively use a gold pigment as well.
5.Using Buck from the palette and a good blending brush, add depth to the crease by blending in a windshield wiper motion.
6.Use a black Kohl pencil to line the outer corners of the lower lash line. I have used Teddy from Mac which is a bronzy shade from the center to the inner corner of the lower lash line to mimic the grading that we have done on the top. Smudge it out depending on how smoky you like it.
7.I have worn false lashes from Kiss in Diva 01. If you are wearing false lashes, glue them on as soon as you are done with the eyeshadow and before you use the liner and mascara.
8.Use a black gel liner to draw a thin line to the upper lash line.
9.Apply mascara generously to upper and lower lashes. The key to applying mascara is to apply right from the roots all the way to the tips so that the roots are really filled in.
I am wearing NARS Velvet Matte Lip pencil in Cruella on my lips. This is one of those smoky eyes where you can wear a bold or bright lip color and it would work well. Gold bronzy eyes are perfect for the day and that bit of black in the outer corners can effortlessly create a stunning evening look for special occasions.
