Nail your look, every single time!
You would have these women in your life – the ones who are always well turned out, the ones who turn a few heads wherever they go, the ones you secretly admire and aspire to be. I have a few in my life. Their styles may be starkly different, their choices very distinctive, but one thing that these women have in common is that they all make an effort. They do not put in that effort for anyone else, they do it for themselves. They do it because they feel good, looking good. One such person in my life is my mother and she has inspired us to be like her in many ways. I have always loved dressing up, and of late with the dive into makeup artistry, it’s about experimenting with new looks every day, trying to find out the colors that work best for my skin tone, figuring out what makeup would go well with a particular attire etc. Today’s post is not a Makeup tutorial. I am sharing with you a few tips to nail your look every single time.
Picture the whole look together
Most of the times, we decide on an outfit, then we grab the makeup that we see lying around and apply it the way that we are used to doing everyday. The result is that you end up looking the same every single time. Now think about this. You lay the outfit out, decide on the jewellery that you would pair it with, figure out how you would do your hair, pick that perfect color of lipstick that complements your outfit and line your eyes differently than you would normally. A few minutes of planning and visualizing is what sets a few apart from the most. While I was thinking of what I would feature on the post today, I decided on my ‘Brocade’ Luxe Lip color first and then picked the outfit, the jewellery and built the other makeup around it.
Experiment
Wear red, fuchsia, orange lipstick. Try out different brands, shades, textures until you find the one that suits you. The next time, you find yourself reaching for black kohl pencil at the store, stop yourself and try out the grey one, the brown one or may be even the bottle green one. Like today, while I was thinking of the eyemakeup for this post, I kept myself away from black and played with shades of mauve and deep purple. A word of caution here is 'DO NOT' attempt a new look when you have to get somewhere and the clock is ticking. Do the trials ahead of time, perfect the technique and then nail it for your special occasion.
Create your signature look
Between trying to experiment with every makeup trend of the season, it’s important that you create your signature look. Think about a time when you have felt the best about your look or the time that you have been flooded with compliments. Figure out what your best facial features are and how you can further enhance them. You don’t need to wing your liner because the world says so, but experiment with everything so that you figure out what is best for you.
Foundation is key
No, I am not talking about the liquid or stick foundation here. That is important too. But the moisturizer, the primer that we wear under our makeup determines the longevity of the makeup and how flawless it looks. So do invest in the right skin prepping products. Also using products like setting powder and setting spray will prevent creasing and ensure that your makeup lasts longer.
Makeup according to the occasion
You may know this already. During the day, minimal base makeup with bright lip colors work great whereas for evening dos, you may need to go a little stronger with your foundation and wear bold and rich lips colors. The red lipstick that you wear during the day may look different at night. The makeup that you wear as a bride will have to be a little stronger than usual so that your face looks picture perfect. So choose products and colors that suit the occasion, the weather, the outfit.
One of my fitness trainers used to often say 'No pain, No gain'. I believe that it's not just applicable to health and fitness but to every aspect in life. When you start putting efforts into how you look, you would see the results. You start getting more compliments , you feel more confident and you get more creative. And the one thing I always say and believe in is 'Don't do it for anyone else, Do it for yourself'. On that note my lovelies, I hope you enjoy the rest of the week and keep writing in. XOXO
