Brides of ShimmerMe - The Traditional Bride
I have been wanting to create a traditional bridal look on the blog for a while now. A look that embodies the perfect marriage of our traditional attire, heritage jewellery with a hairdo and makeup that complements and completes it. It’s no surprise that a traditional look when styled right, turns out to be effortlessly graceful and timeless as well. These words sit very well with my aesthetic and I am glad to have created another reference for all you lovely brides-to-be out there.
I can easily see this look on a bride for an engagement ceremony or a wedding reception. It is simple yet memorable, traditional yet glamorous. Balance as always is key, ensuring that each element works in harmony with one another without drowning the other.
For styling the look, I chose this saree from my personal collection, which also happens to be my first purchase from Sabyasachi. While buying this saree 8 years ago, I wanted to invest in a piece which is understated yet rich and can be worn regardless of how old I get. The beige body of the saree in jute is a striking contrast to the bold red brocade on the pleats and the purple peeping through. What makes the saree stand out is that rich ornate border, a visual statement in itself. I see a saree such as this to be an exciting alternative to the kanjeevaram and banarasi silks which are obvious choices while going for a traditional look. It also leaves enough room for jewellery to shine through.
The splendid temple jewellery is a breath of fresh air from the kundan and polki that has been trending for a while now. The exquisite choker with rubies and emeralds embedded in gold and finished off with heavenly Keshi pearls adds to the richness of the entire look. The bangle and earring with peacock motif are bold enough to make statements in themselves, but also come together beautifully. The unique maang tika is the kingship between rose cut diamonds, rubies and pearls., completed with exclusive emerald drops. These stunning pieces of jewellery are crafted to perfection by the craftsmen at CJ Artisan Boutique. If you are a bride-to-be looking for statement jewellery for your bridal events or you are just looking to add to your personal collection, you must check out their collection at their boutique store in Trichur, Kerala. They also tailor jewellery to match your specific need in terms of outfits and budget.
There are a couple of pointers that I use while narrowing down on makeup and hairdo for a bridal or any other look that I style. The first is creating something that suits the person and the second is making sure that it complements other elements like the attire, the jewellery, the venue etc. Soft bronzy brown smokey eyes, maroon lips, bronzed cheeks were just enough to help me meet that criteria. Bronzy brown is a softer and more versatile variation to the classic black smokey eyes. And there is so much more to lip color than the overdone red. The lip color that I have used on Ashwini is a mix of a few shades picked to match the maroon motifs on the saree blouse. How is that for inspiration :-)
With hair, I just wanted something simple, something yesteryear. A middle-part low bun with hair partially covering the ears delivers just that with a few perfect rose buds pinned around on the side.
Every bride doesn’t need layers of concealer or foundation, every pair of lashes doesn’t require a pair of falsies, every jawline doesn’t have to be contoured. The tools are there to be used if and only when needed. What wins hands down though is the radiant skin of a bride on her big day. Focus on the must-haves and choose the could-haves wisely. I will leave you at that:)
