Brides of ShimmerMe - The South Indian Bride
When we visualise a traditional South Indian bride, one of the first things that comes to mind is the rich, opulent jewellery worn by brides of the region. It is the jewellery itself; this resplendent necklace that inspired other elements for this look.
This is not your typical South Indian bridal look for one too many reasons. You do not see here the traditional layering of jewellery or a quintessential hairdo, one that is in a bun or a braid. Yet there is a strong play of classic elements like traditional jewellery, a kancheepram saree and the classic ‘pottu’. I see such a look fitting for a bride who would like a modern twist to tradition to wear for her engagement or wedding reception. The stunning play of colors on the jewellery is pretty much what inspired the makeup. For eye makeup, I used eye shadows in neutral browns with a pop of gold shimmer, drew a thin winged eyeliner and finished off with kohl rimmed eyes. Lips are in a contrast custom lip color that complements rubies on the necklace. For all those who asked about the lip color, I have mixed Cosmic Raspberry lip color and Sangria lip pencil , both from Bobbi Brown to get this shade. Hair is pulled back in a contemporary bubble braid with pink flowers at the knots.
