Bold Evening look feat. Roshni Thomas
Strong Eyes. Bold Lips. Well-defined Brows. I wanted it all for the look that I was creating. For those of you who do not know the little thing sporting this fierce look, she is Roshni, the baby of our family, youngest of us 3 siblings. She is also the Founder and Designer of 6 Yards, a label which creates Indian couture. On ShimmerMe Folio, I will be featuring different looks that I create on others, so that you have visibility into the work that I do.
Rosh has a tiny face and I wanted to experiment with something that I have never seen on her. She has beautiful almond eyes, strong brows and full lips. I wanted to emphasize each of these features while making sure that one doesn’t overpower the other. So I stuck to colors that work well with each other. With the bold eyes and lips, cheeks are highlighted with just a subtle pop of color. So this is how I went about creating the look.
Eyes
I started with the eyes first by applying Urban Decay eyeshadow primer all over the lids. Then, using the award winning Long Wear Gel Liner from Bobbi Brown in 'Black Ink', started lining the upper lash line, taking it all the way over the lids up to the crease. The gel liner is highly pigmented, waterproof and quick to dry making it the perfect base for strong eyes. To add more intensity, I applied ‘Black Market’ a black satin shade from Naked Smoky palette all over the liner. I used a Bronzy Orange shade from Ted Baker as the transition color for the crease. It’s an amazing shade that complements Indian skin tone. On the lower lash line, Black Market is applied from the outer corner to almost the center and continued with the bronzy orange shade to the inner corner of the eye. I highlighted the brow bone with the shade‘Thirteen’ from the smoky palette. Eyes are made stronger with ‘Au Naturale 01’ eyelashes from Kiss and Smoky eye mascara from Bobbi Brown.
Base – Eyes & Face
After cleaning the under eye area and cheeks of the excess eyeshadow that had dropped, I used Bobbi Brown hydrating eye cream under the eye as the primer and hydrating face cream as the face moisturiser. I used Laura Mercier primer over the moisturiser to prep the face. To correct the mild discoloration under Rosh’s eyes, I applied Bobbi Brown corrector in Peach and concealer in Warm Natural 4.5 over it, which is also the foundation color used. Under eyes are set with Pale Yellow powder from Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer kit. Foundation formula used is Bobbi Brown’s Stick foundation which creates a natural and smooth finish. I have used my favorite Translucent powder from Laura Mercier to set the face. It’s incredible how lightweight it is.
Blush, Contouring and Highlighting
For this look, I chose subtle contour and highlight. One thing that I learnt at the Makeup studio is that you can easily achieve both by using shades of foundation a few shades darker and lighter respectively. So I used foundation stick in Almond for contouring. I applied it just above the dip underneath her cheekbones and on the sides of the nose starting from the inner corner of the eyes, straight down to the end of the nose. I highlighted the cheekbone, center of the forehead and chin, cupid’s bow and the bridge of the nose using Rosh's highlighter which is Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal. Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in ‘Raspberry’ is applied to the apples of the cheeks to subtly complement the rich lips.
Brows
This little thing is blessed with great brows or as she says she has spent quite a few years growing and grooming it. I kept the brows full and natural by just defining it with Bobbi Brown Brow pencil in Mahogany and used the shadow powders in Mahogany and Saddle to fill in the gaps.
Lips
Bold rich lips are created using Bobbi Brown Lip pencil in Sangria and Diva, a matte reddish burgundy shade from Mac.
I would suggest this look for evening and think it would also work as a simple yet strong look on Indian brides when paired with bridal attire and jewellery.
What Rosh had to say: "I usually have a 'barely there' makeup on and occasionally opt for a pop of colour on my lips. So, when my sister suggested a bold look on me I was totally game. What I loved the most about the look was the eye makeup. It was a first time with false lashes and I could see the difference it makes. I would totally wear this makeup for an evening do and thanks to my sister for working her magic on me."
I am very happy with how the look turned out. What I love is that she still looks like herself, only more confident and gorgeous. If you recreate the look, do share pictures with me. Also, follow shimmerme.co on Instagram for Insta exclusive feeds. Stay gorgeous chicas xx
